Process Engineer

Summary

Assists with designing, implementing, controlling and optimizing industrial processes which turn raw materials in to a product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with research and development of new equipment and processes
  • Assists in testing of raw materials and analyzes results of tests to determine combinations of materials which will improve properties and performance
  • Specifies and documents the physical, chemical and abrasive properties of materials
  • Creates mix formulations to obtain desired grade and structure of abrasive product
  • Assists in modification and optimization of existing processes and equipment
  • Works with continuous improvement and corrective action teams to recommend and implement changes that improve quality, lower waste, and control manufacturing costs
  • Evaluates and interprets data using statistical methods and graphical presentation
  • Utilizes technology and software to evaluate and document processes
  • Solves materials and processing problems
  • Documents processes and ensures compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols
  • Presents data and reports to co-workers and management

  • Works in partnership with other engineers, employees and managers to meet abrasive market demands
  • Protects organization's competitive value and keeps information confidential
  • Observes safety and security procedures

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience                                                     

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering or Material Science
  • 3-4 years of experience with ceramic/abrasive and super-abrasive materials; processing and process development (ceramic powders/abrasive and super-abrasive grains); powder processing, green binder mixing, dry pressing/hot pressing, high temperature firing
  • Experience using laboratory and production equipment such as mixers, presses, furnaces, ovens, programmable controllers, and characterization equipment
  • Working knowledge of DoE
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 standards
  • Knowledge of MS Office Applications and Manufacturing software required; AutoCAD preferred
